Who am I?
Mixing and Mastering Engineer | Educator
I'm Sam Baldwin, a seasoned mixing and mastering engineer with close to a decade of experience in the music industry. My passion lies in shaping diverse musical genres, ranging from jazz and R&B to folk and alternative, into polished and compelling sonic experiences.
Professional Journey
As a graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2020, I've had the privilege of contributing to a variety of productions. Notable collaborations include work with artists such as Rosie Tee, Olly Chalk, Diddy Sweg, Count Shaw, Sofar Sounds, Ant Law, Delta Autumn, and more. I work with independent, self funded bands as well as label backed artists, and there is no project too big or too small for me to consider.
Studio Work and Collaborations
In addition to my role as a mixing and mastering engineer, I've been actively involved in recording at a variety of studios across the midlands, more often than not, Megatone Studios. Working closely with bands, I've played a crucial role in producing records that capture the essence of their artistic vision - this has involved recording whole albums across a jam packed weekend and through the night, as well as recording a live EP in a museum …
Balancing Tradition with Innovation
I bring a balanced approach to my craft, leveraging analog gear to infuse warmth and character into mixes while utilising cutting-edge audio plugins for precision and a contemporary edge. I like to mix in a hybrid style that brings a timeless quality to your tracks, whilst making revisions and edits very simple and quick.
Passion for Education
Beyond the studio, I am committed to teaching and lecturing. As a lecturer, I share my knowledge and skills in audio production techniques with students from A-level to degree qualifications, empowering them to navigate the nuances of the music industry with a range of up-to-date skills. My lecturing role to date has included teaching at a number of different education providers including Halesowen College and BIMM Birmingham, subjects and modules I have lectured in include audio capture, studio practice and engineering, the art of mastering, mixing multitrack audio and more recently lead lecturing on conceptual led production.
Performance and Composition: Electric Guitar and Saxophone
From tours to function gigs and studio sessions, my musical identity has been shaped by the electric guitar and saxophone. I have been playing and practicing music since 7 years of age, and am still learning today. As someone who used to write, record and gig my own music I understand the pressures of releasing music from both sides of the process.
